Imperial Court Supports Family Health Centers of San Diego’s Transgender Healthcare Project
Pledges $5,000 to Project STAR at Transgender Day of Empowerment Event
San Diego, CA- Representatives of the Imperial Court de San Diego presented a check to Family Health Centers of San Diego’s Project STAR (Supporting Transgender Access to Resources Program at the 5th Annual Transgender Day of Empowerment event on Friday, April 4. Imperial Court President Big Mike Phillips along with Emperor Daddy Don & Empress Chantal made the presentation to Tracie Jada O’Brien, Program Coordinator of Project STAR.
“One of the primary goals of the Imperial Court is to raise funds and raise awareness for critical services in our community. The work that Family Health Centers of San Diego has done to establish Project STAR is amazing. We want to ensure that the program continues to serve our transgender brothers and sisters” said Phillips. “We have pledged $5,000 to this critical program and hope that other organizations and individuals in the community will join us in our support.”
Family Health Centers of San Diego developed Project STAR to help transgender persons access health and other resources while educating about and advocating for the needs of San Diego’s transgender population. Through education and advocacy workshops, Project STAR has worked to increase healthcare providers’ and LGBT organizations’ transgender-specific cultural competency. The program provides a safe and supportive environment for transgender individuals looking for: employment assistance, counseling referrals, access to transitioning related medical services, and community support.
